History & Development

The history of the Hong Kong Swimming Teachers' Association can be traced back to the 1960s. Mr. Albert Parish, a British national passionate about swimming instruction and lifesaving, had close connections with the Royal Life Saving Society (Hong Kong Branch) at the time. In 1966, Mr. Kwok Hon-ming, Mr. Luke Kwan-lun, Mr. Chu Kwong-tor, and Dr. Yeung Chi-tao travelled to the United Kingdom to attend the 2nd Commonwealth Life Saving Society Conference. Coinciding with this event, Mr. Albert Parish, in his capacity with the Swimming Teachers Association, appointed the aforementioned four individuals as representatives of the Swimming Teachers Association in Hong Kong. Subsequently, a series of swimming activities were organised, including self-rescue badges, distance specialty badges, and synchronised swimming.
